Children Of Ancient Chin Children And Age - 1139 Words

Daniela Arias January 27, 2016 Period 7 Children in Ancient China Children in Ancient China had different expectations laid out for them, mostly dependent on gender and age. One of the most important values instilled in children was respect. Children were expected to respect authority figures above all, but also to respect those in their immediate family. Religion and philosophies in Ancient China played a major role in what was expected of Chinese children. Expectations also varied depending on the child’s social status. Confucianism in particular is acknowledged as the major influence in the daily lives of Chinese people, but especially children. Early education played a major role in preparing children to eventually serve for the state. Additionally, it was necessary to ensure their loyalty to the state as early as possible as a means of strengthening the empire. Around 74 BCE the role of women started to come into question. However, educated women were thought as a threat to the stability of the dynasty. This was met with increased pressure on girls to assume traditional societal roles. Education for women differed in terms of the general purpose. Men were urged to pursue a rigorous education and expected to eventually rise to important governmental positions or to join the military, but education for women was not as focused and did not have such an endgoal. However, some were beginning to question why women were not given the same opportunities. It was becoming clear that women could not be ignored- Ban Chao was a general of the Eastern Han dynasty (32 AD-102 AD). Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest, longest-lasting, and most influential civilizations in world history thriving from 3100 - 31 BCE. Life in Egypt was based on many essential key components. The basic foundation of Egypt was the Nile River, This mighty river, which flows north from the heart of Africa to the Mediterranean Sea, nourished the growth of the pharaonic kingdom (History). The Nile River was a magnet of life where animals ate off the banks, merchants traveled down the river selling their goods, and locals to bathe used it. Proverb Analysis Essay Example For Students

Proverb Analysis Essay Have you ever helped a friend or family member in need? Or even a stranger? You probably did this out of good intent and wanted to be a good Samaritan. Well I applaud you! Well done! However, have you ever thought about what would happen if that person was in trouble again? I answered this question by writing my own proverb, Help a person in need, and he will think of you again when he is in trouble. It is pretty self explanatory. Once you help a person, they will go to you again when something goes awry. This may continue until a person stops it or the person being helped no longer needs assistance. It takes the idea of being a kind and courteous person in which it is a selfless good deed, to looking at the bad side of it. This proverb is meaningful to me because I made it up and secondly, because it actually makes sense. There have been a few incidents in my life that involved me helping others and being asked for help repeatedly afterwards. I know it doesnt sound like Im very nice but I just believe this because of previous experiences. I also know it may sound pessimistic but this proverb can only be fully understood when a person has had it happen to them. If you think of times where you helped someone, be it a friend or another, they usually come back again when they require assistance. Lets try an example: A friends comes and asks you for help on homework. You help them being the nice person you are and they thank you and leave. A while later, they return asking for more help but this time in a bit more urgent and less appreciative manner. You still help them. This continues on until they do it so much it gets on your nerves and no matter what you say, they still keep asking for help. They might tell friends and theyll ask you for answers as well as him, or he might never stop. This may be resolved but you have learned a lesson. Some people cannot be trusted. That is what I believe! However I believe that you shouldnt trust anyone just to be safe. Now this has happened to a friend of mine exactly how I described in the example. What convinced me to believe in this proverb is when I loaned a family member some money because they were broke. Afterwards, he asked for more money when he was out again. It was easy to stop this cycle by saying no and ignoring him but believe me; the process can be very difficult. Im sure that everyone has helped a person in need. That is very thoughtful and considerate of them. However, I believe it is a mistake to do so. When you help a person, they are grateful, but they could have done something about it by themselves. It is laziness and unbelief that drives them to ask for help. When you help a person in need, even though the short term effect are good, the long term is usually bad. Instead of having the person learn for themselves, you have given them the easy way out. There is always an answer and that is what people should believe. Not that the person next to them will give them the answer. By helping people, we are no better than those who help others cheat or con each other. We are fooling them and ourselves. When you see a homeless person on the street, you want to give them spare change or some food. What is keeping them from going out and getting a job? What will they do with the money or food when it is used up? They will want more. This proves that man is greedy. Once they have had something they like, they want more. .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .postImageUrl , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:hover , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:visited , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:active { border:0!important; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:active , .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6 .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u07fc9fd6adee7790d6d5541e5e8386d6:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Discrimination in America EssayLike an addiction. The Crucible Abigail to John - Creative free essay sample

My Dearest John, Once you lay eyes upon this letter, I have far departed from Salem. My returning of avoiding the chaos I have stirred upon Salem is yet unknown. May it merely be days, weeks, months or years before reappearing, my unfathomable adoration towards you will reside in my lone heart eternally. I do not beseech for a letter in return, as my decision to conceal my dwelling place will remain as it is. Please do not endeavor to locate me, as this is very reason I headed off without a bid of farewell. Everything from the beginning was done for eliminating that woman from our lives. I know you love me John, and I love you dearly too, but with such a despicable woman by your side who takes every chance to separate us must be eradicated from our love life. Everything from dancing in the forest to casting lies in the court trials was all meant for you. I drank it for you John, for our future without that sniveling woman. It wasn’t until Uncle Parris discovered us dancing and brought in Reverend Hale, that I realized I had to lie about everything. If lies weren’t told, the whole of Salem would have thought us of villains in league with the Devil. If this was to be the case we would have been hung; I would have been hung. John, my heart would ache knowing that you’d continue your life with that sickly woman without me. So I lied and blamed it on Tituba, who would’ve guessed that from that moment, hysteria and panic would have uplifted through the town of Salem. Why do you constantly hurt me John? Of all that I have done, everything was for you. I do daresay you still care for me, as your actions do not prove otherwise. Why do you repeatedly stand up for that cold witch? For all that I know – my love for you is by times greater than what she gives you. Do you not remember how we fondled that night? How we caressed? How we embraced? After such a fervent night, I could feel your affection for me – something you could never provide for Goody Proctor. That’s why I had to evise of a plan to free you from such a woman, and this is when God gave me the chance of stumbling across Mary. Knowing that it was a chance from God, I had to take it within my hands and make the best of it. Clutching in Mary’s hand was a straw doll, and as I slowly filled her with questions, she slowly answered them with detail. It wasn’t long before she filled me with answers pleasing to my ears, and with this, I took the opportunity to fra me Goody Proctor as a witch. Yes, it was me who stuck the needle into myself – 1 inch deep – don’t think I did it for nothing, I planned all this out just for you. Enduring the pain to get rid of this ridiculous woman that you name your wife was by all means the most beneficial act I could have performed. Oh John, how I long to be with you, nothing will surpass my love for you. Having power is such a remarkable possession – something Goody Proctor will never attain. Everyone believed me, and being young made Danforth think I was innocent – what a fool of him. Though, please do not think wrong of me, as you’re the trigger to all my actions. If anyone was wrong, it would’ve been you. Just? Since when was anything just? Justice claims nothing but idiocy. If I confessed to my acts in the forest, I would be claimed as nothing but a witch. Yet, if I lied, then what everyone believes is a lie. Both outcomes will still be unjust, so why would I be an idiot to confess to my acts and be named as a witch, while I can accuse anyone and clear my name and stay alive? I hope you do not think I’m taking this lightly. My life is devoted to you, and I know you feel the same way too. Anyway, I by no means intended to lead you into jail, stay safe. With love, Abigail.

How Emotional Intelligence Influences Leadership

How Emotional Intelligence Influences Leadership One may think of a perfect leader and come up with many alternatives. It could be a leader with a high-level of managing temper irrespective of the challenge, a leader who has absolute trust in his or her employees, listens, makes intelligent decisions, and provides feedback and has others desirable qualities.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on How Emotional Intelligence Influences Leadership specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More These are qualities of a leader with high standards of emotional intelligence. In this article, the writer explores how emotional intelligence influences leadership, employee motivation and performance. It also shows how a leader can improve on emotional intelligence because they can learn, although with a great effort and commitment. Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to comprehend and manage one’s emotions and emotions of other people (Salovey and Mayer 185). Leaders who ha ve high-levels of emotional intelligence understand their feelings, meanings of their emotions and effects of those emotions on other people. For people in leadership positions, having EI is critical for success. Daniel Goleman is an American psychologist who perfected EI. He focused on five key elements of EI, which could influence leadership. These included self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, and motivation. Goleman believes that â€Å"effective leaders are alike in one way: they all have a high degree of emotional intelligence† (Goleman 94). Leaders who tend to manage these elements normally have high standards of emotional intelligence. Self-awareness helps leaders to understand their own feelings. In addition, they also understand how their emotions and actions could affect their staff. Self-awareness also allows leaders to understand their own strengths and weaknesses. This makes leaders to act or behave with humility. Leaders with self-awareness de monstrate a high degree of self-confidence, realistic self-assessment, and self-deprecating sense of humor (Goleman 95). Leaders can improve on self-awareness by tracking their thoughts, feelings, and actions through journals. In addition, they can also mitigate their feelings of anger and other strong emotions. It is imperative to note that irrespective of prevailing situations, people can choose how to react. Self-regulation is a quality that allows leaders to stay in control of their decisions, maintain their values, and avoid stereotyping or attacking others. Such leaders can control disruptive emotions and think before taking any action. In addition, they also have high degrees of integrity, embrace change, and tolerate ambiguity.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Goleman observes that self-regulation allows leaders to be flexible and be personally acco untable because it demands integrity and trustworthiness from leaders (Goleman 98). Leaders can use some strategies to improve on their abilities to self-regulate. First, it is important for leaders to understand their values and know factors that can make them to compromise those values. This allows leaders to understand important values for them, avoid ethical dilemmas, and make right ethical decisions. Moreover, leaders who understand themselves are able to create an environment of trust and fairness. Second, leaders need to hold themselves accountable in order to develop self-regulating abilities. Some leaders blame their teams because of failures. Instead, leaders should be accountable, review failures, and face their consequences. This makes leaders accountable and improves trust within the team. Finally, leaders should learn to remain calm in all situations, even in a challenging situation. They should learn to relieve stress without affecting others. Stress and conflicts are also present in medical organizations. For instance, Jeanne Morrison noted cases of conflicts and stress in the nursing profession because of â€Å"inadequate salary, a lack of appreciation and fairness, increasing workloads with critical cases and poor relations with colleagues† (Morrison 974). Hence, the need to understand how to handle stress and conflicts in medical organizations was critical for employees. Morrison noted that it was impossible to eliminate conflicts and stress at workplaces but observed that learning â€Å"essential emotional intelligence (EI) skills could be helpful† (Morrison 975). Leaders must understand how to control their strong emotions and negative feelings and thoughts. Self-motivated leaders have tendencies of working constantly toward their objectives. Moreover, they believe in exceptionally high stands of achievements. These leaders have deep desire to achieve just for the sake of impressive results. In addition, they also show energy , persistence, optimism, commitment to organizations and strong drive to excel. Leaders who lack a sense of motivation should improve on it. First, a leader and his or her staff should re-examine their jobs and understand their roles and contributions to organizations. Leaders should motivate people through appreciation and in some cases, through monetary rewards. A leader should understand factors that lead to a lack of motivation within his or her team and formulate strategic ways of motivating employees. Most importantly, leaders must understand how motivated they are by assessing themselves in order to lead others. Leaders should be optimistic amidst failure and find reasons to put effort in their roles. Motivated leaders tend to analyze a situation, understand causes of failures, and master lesson learned for improvement. For such leaders, situations tend to be positive rather than negative. Motivated employees are likely to performance best than others.Advertising We w ill write a custom research paper sample on How Emotional Intelligence Influences Leadership specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Another factor of emotional intelligence is empathy. For a leader, empathy is an imperative factor that can lead to successful leadership in an organization. Leaders with empathy understand situations of others, their emotional composition, and possess skills required to react to other people based on their emotions. These leaders have abilities to build and retain talents, show cross-cultural sensitivity and offer services to their stakeholders. Hence, leaders with empathy develop others within the team, challenge team members who have negative attitudes, listen, and provide constructive feedback to team members. Leaders who have earned respect and loyalty in organizations are empathetic toward others. One can learn empathy by understanding others’ situations. Although it is simple to maintain one’s pos ition and point of view, it is advisable to understand situations from others’ perspectives too. Empathy also involves understanding body language. Body language could tell others how one feels about a position. Leaders who have mastered the art of body language understand how people feel when they address them. As a result, they are able to respond appropriately in a given situation. Leaders should also learn how to respond to feelings of others, especially in cases where employees feel that their jobs are frustrating them. Leaders who understand social skills as a component of emotional intelligence also understand communication skills, interpersonal relations, and conflict resolution among others. They are good at building new relations and maintaining networks with colleagues. Moreover, such leaders can find neutral grounds and create rapport in a team. Leaders who possess social skills are good in leading organizational change, persuading others, and building teams. Such leaders can accommodate both good and bad news. They can also get support from team members to support new initiatives. Social skills allow such leaders to resolve conflicts cautiously, get logical conclusions and demonstrate leadership through their own actions. One can build social skills by learning how to resolve conflicts in organizations and with other external partners. Improving communication skills can help leaders to develop their emotional intelligence and communicate effectively. Team members also require praise from their leaders. This inspires team effort and loyalty. In order to be an effective leader, a broad understanding of emotions and their impacts on others is imperative for leaders. A good leader relates and works effectively with different members of an organization. This leads to successful leadership. As Goleman shows, emotional intelligence makes a leader. Hence, leaders should improve on their self-awareness, motivation, social skills, self-regulation, an d empathy. Leaders should understand their emotions, emotions of others and express them appropriately.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Thus, emotional intelligence influences leadership by trying to improve it and create a favorable working environment in an organization, which contributes positively in employee motivation and job performance. Luckily, previous studies and Goleman show that one can learn emotional intelligence (Goleman 92; Guillà ©n and Florent-Treacy 2-30). It is not simple to develop emotional intelligence through normal studying of available literature (Davies 1). Instead, the process requires training, practice, effort, and support. Under some circumstances, employees may provide feedback on leadership performance and management styles of executives based on their behavioral outcomes and evaluation criteria. Although some leaders may consider such feedback as threatening and confronting, particularly if they do not appreciate feedback from juniors, it is the most imperative pr ocess in developing leadership emotional intelligence because feedback helps in identification of gaps and areas for improvement. In an article from a mental health journal, one article proposed the use of PCPs (Primary Care Providers) in early identification of individuals at risk. Usually, it is estimated that 70 % of individuals with health insurance visit their PCP’s at least yearly, hence this might serve as good screening grounds for individuals at risk and those with mental illness. This method is only advantageous for insured individuals, but for uninsured people who lack access to health care providers, screening might be a problem (CDC, 2012). Another health promotion program that has shown success in the past is mental education (CDC, 2012). In this case, the community is educated regarding mental illness and provided with some of the major signs and symptoms to keep watch. It is important that sign/symptoms of depression be taught as it is a common phenomenon is suicide victims. These health educations should be aimed towards the rightful target population. In as much there are many mental health facilities, usually a small percentage of people benefit from it (HealthyPeople.gov, 2012). Mental health education can be limited with the issue of little resources and personnel to conduct the rigorous exercise. The target audience in such case should more entail students, parents and teachers. Education hence should try to focus on providing warning signs to the target population and people around them (HealthyPeople.gov, 2012). Based on the assessment of an identified need in the community, the goal of reducing the suicide rate from 16 to 10 by the year 2016 is realistic and attainable. Utilization of a readily available PCP resource makes the process of screening and treating insured individuals facing mental health concerns simple (NIMH, 2010). By offering education on mental health resources as early as elementary school, students, parents, and teachers are equipped with information as well as warning signs that can be used to potentially save lives (CDC, 2012). 4.
